The eyes contain the most details about your face and personality. It is important to take proper care of the eyes to contain the charm of the eye because negligence may lead to serious eye problems including several eye diseases, such as loss of vision. As we know, prevention is far better than cure. We should identify and treat eye diseases before they get serious. Hyperopia is a common eye refractive error that needs to be identified and treated as early as possible. Hyperopia can be identified by going for an eye examination. Should visit an optometrist for an eye check at least once a year. As much as we need to keep our body healthy, it is salient to keep our eyes healthy too.
Before starting the discussion about hyperopia, let’s get to know more about our eyes. If we were to compare our eyeball to a camera, we can see light reflecting from an object and passing through while taking a picture. A camera contains a transparent glass in front of the aperture of the camera, a lens, which helps in focusing light rays and lastly a film at which the light is focus to get a clear picture.
Our eyes are similar to a camera. When we’re looking at an object, reflected light from that object enters our eye through the cornea, the transparent curved front part of the eye. Then it passes through the crystalline lens that helps us to focus the light rays, and lastly the retina, a light sensitive receptor cells in the posterior part of the eyeball, at which the light is focused for a clear image.
Hyperopia is also known as farsightedness. It is a form of refractive error. Which means, the inability to refract, bend and focus the light rays properly. Parallel light rays coming in from a distant object after entering the eyes are focus behind the retina while our eye muscles are at rest. In hyperopia, people cannot focus at distant objects.
In a normal eye, the image is focus on the retina to be clear. For people with hyperopia, the image is usually formed behind the retina.
The rays that come from objects located at a distant of 6 meters is use as a target during eye examination. This is because, when on objects are closer than 6 meters, light rays start to diverge, changing their focal point.
Eyes change their focusing power by changing the shape of its lens with the help of contraction and relaxation of our ocular eye muscle located inside the eyeball. These muscles must be at rest to access the eye’s focusing power properly.

1. Curvature- The curvature of the cornea or lens is flatter than normal.
2. Axial- Short axial length of the eye.
3. Index- Decrease in refractive index.
4. Positional- Posterior displacement of the lens.
5. Aphakia- Absence of lens in the eye, therefore the eye cannot focus light rays on the retina.
Difficulty focusing near objects
Eyes strains or discomfort
Asthenopia, includes eye tiredness
Headache
Blurred vision with eye strain
If your hyperopia reaches a stage where you’re not able to perform your daily tasks or when your vision quality affects your concentration, then this is high time to visit for an eye examination.
If you wear contact lenses or glasses but have health condition issues that may affect your eyes, you’re advice to go for an eye checkup regularly. And at the same time, if don’t have any issue with your eyes (eg.. you don’t wear contact lenses or glasses), you should get your eye examined at least once every 2 years.
